Obituary for Norma Jean Moore (Burdick)

SHELTON - Norma Jean (Burdick) Moore, age 100 of Shelton and formerly of Seymour, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2022. She was the wife of the late of Charles H. Moore. Daughter of the late Dorr and Helen (Dunbar) Burdick, Norma was born on Feb 27, 1922 in Elmira, NY, and later lived in Rochester, NY, before moving to Seymour in 1958.

A lover of nature and animals, Norma volunteered at the Ansonia Nature Center for many years. She also volunteered at the Seymour Public Library. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, word games such as Scrabble, and especially loved using words and phrases in clever ways. Norma was also very active and could be found playing pool even into her 90’s. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Stratford.

She is survived by her daughter Holly Moore and her partner Peter Hamilton of NYC, her son Jeffrey Moore of Florida, 2 granddaughters Sara Moore of CO, and Samantha (Luke) Streng of Guilford. Also survived by 3 great-grandchildren, Blakely, Annabelle and Weston Streng, all of Guilford. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister Marjorie Jones of Rochester, NY and a cousin Ethelyn Burdick of Binghamton, NY.

The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 161 W. Church St., Seymour, CT has been entrusted with her arrangements and services will be private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Norma Jean’s memory can be made to the Ansonia Nature Center and Recreation Center, 10 Deerfield Lane, Ansonia, CT 06401.
