Obituary for Joseph P. Belletti Jr.

SEYMOUR, CT: Joseph Peter Belletti Jr. July 11, 1953- June 19, 2022
It is with heavy hearts and extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Belletti Jr. Our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away June 19 at home in the loving arms of his wife and four of his children. One minute he was in our arms and the next, in the arms of the Lord, in the blink of an eye. Joseph fought a courageous battle with cancer. Already weakened by extensive treatment, God saw how tired Joe was and decided to bring his faithful servant home. Upon entering heaven, Joe was reunited with his dear parents, Joseph Belletti Sr, and Bertha Cote Belletti, along with his in-laws Frederick and Marjorie Tanner, aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and his baby son, Johnathan.
Joe grew up in Oxford until he was a teenager, then moved to Naugatuck. When he was 16, he met the love of his life, his wife, Susan (Tanner) Belletti. They married young, had 5 children, and were married for 52 years. They had 3 children by the time they were 23 and thought they were all done. God had different plans and they were blessed with 2 more children. The family made their home in Seymour for 50 years celebrating milestones, birthdays, and cherished memories.
In Joe's 20s and 30s, he was an avid golfer achieving a 3 handicap. His list of accomplishments included 3 holes in one, winning numerous solo tournaments and duo tournaments with his father, and later his son. In the early 90s Joe was the club champion at Farmingbury Hills Golf Course in Wolcott. He passed his passion of the sport on to his son Joe, and grandson Joey IV. He played golf every weekend until he decided his greatest passion was to spend his weekends driving in his corvette with Sue. Every weekend you would see them cruising about town rocking to their favorite songs and stopping at their favorite restaurants up the CT shoreline. They found pleasure in the simplest things in life as long as they were together holding hands. Friends commented on how close Joe and Sue were in these moments.
Joe, along with his son Joe III were the owners of Belletti Tree Service in Seymour. Peter Belletti, in 1919, founded Belletti Tree as part of the first licensing class of arborists in the country. His father, Joseph Sr got his arborist license in 1940. Joe followed by getting his license in 1981 and his son continued his legacy as a fourth generation arborist in 2018. Joe III carries the legacy of being the oldest continuously operated licensed arboriculture business in the nation.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, 5 children and 12 grandkids. He leaves behind Marie (Gino) Pelaccia, Theresa (Rich) Lamoureux, Sonya (Paul) Giovacchino, Jennifer Tanner, and Joseph (Hilary) Belletti. He left behind his grandchildren whom he placed above all else including Gino, Anthony, Giovanni, and Alyssa Pelaccia; Jessica Lamoureux; Angelica Bodine. His loving grandchildren whom were always by his side: Paul, Dominic, Milani, and Dacia Giovacchino; Joey Belletti IV. Joseph's siblings Larry (Marilyn) Belletti, Mary Ellen (Jay) Antoniolli, and his beloved sister Lorraine Karaban who was by his side throughout his illness, his dear and loving brother in law George (Dawn) Tanner, sister in law Beverly Mikolash and his dearest and closest niece and nephew Debbie Lastra and Ray Karaban. He also leaves behind his longest friend Billy Stasonis and his dear neighbor and friend Tom Downey.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the Dr's, nurses and staff at Smilow Cancer Center in Derby for their care, especially Jon, his chemo nurse as well as Daisy and Julisa for their prayers, hugs, and constant emotional support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Joseph to Towers to Tunnels and Make a Wish Foundation. .
