Obituary for Helen Marie Athans (Soresino)

SEYMOUR, CT: Helen Marie Athans, age 93 of Seymour, entered peaceful rest on January 25, 2018 at Shady Knoll Health Center with her devoted family by her side. Helen was the beloved wife of the late Stephen Athans. Mrs. Athans was born in Derby on November 5, 1924, daughter of the late Guisseppe and Lena (Turci) Soresino. She was retired from working in food service as a Nutritionist and Cook.

Helen was a communicant of The Church of the Good Shepherd, and a member of the Seymour Senior Center. She loved playing BINGO and taking trips to the casino. She enjoyed working in her yard, and also reading romance novels. Helen had many wonderful talents and special gifts; for Christmas every year she would hand make her famous Coplettes filled pasta and would gift them with a can of chicken broth, a most appreciated and coveted gift. When the time arrived that her grandchildren and great grandchildren were born, Helen decided it was time to leave her career to care for all of them, which she lovingly did.

Mrs. Athans leaves her loving family including her son, Stephen Athanasiou (Nancy) of Seymour, her daughter, Diane Ahern (Pete) of Seymour, her grandchildren, Peter M. Ahern, Sarah Paolino (Ed), Stephen Athans (Lisette), and Amanda Kogan (Misha), also great grandchildren, Skylar Helena Ahern, Teagan Reilly Ahern, Jessica Paolino, Aleksandra Marie Athans, and Braedan Athans; also her best friend Rita Wilson of Seymour. Her brothers, Martin, Andrew, Joseph, and George, and sisters, Rena, Inez, and Vera predeceased her.

Calling Hours are Sunday from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of the Good Shepherd (DIRECTLY), 135 Mountain Road, Seymour. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Memorial Gifts may be sent to Shady Knoll Health Center, 41 Skokorat Street Seymour, CT 06483, or to the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter, 200 Executive Boulevard, Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
