Obituary for Helen Behuniak (Geleta)
SEYMOUR, CT: Helen (Geleta) Behuniak, a lifelong Seymour resident and loving mother to Donna (Behuniak) Sugg, and Shirley (Behuniak) DeMatteo, passed away suddenly during the early morning hours on April 15, 2019. Right to the end, Helen was a vibrant spirit who, at 93 years old, still drove a four-speed SUV, texted regularly and even had a Facebook account.
Helen was predeceased in 2010 by her husband of 63 wonderful years, Stanley (Stash) Behuniak. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Michael DeMatteo, granddaughter-in-law, Erisa DeMatteo, and siblings, Rose Rotko, Antoinette Cochran, Eva Bryce, and John Geleta.
Helen leaves to mourn her passing, but honor her life, her daughters,
Donna ( Kenneth Sugg), and Shirley (Richard Lombardo); four grandchildren, Steven Grassi (Lesley), Michael DeMatteo, Alyssa DeMatteo, Brent DeMatteo (Courtney); five great grandchildren, Crystal, Ava, Lauren, Oliver, and Alanah; also her BFF Gary Zibluk.
Helen began working for Uniroyal in Naugatuck while still in High School, and returned back to work there a few years later after the birth of her daughters. Helen loved gardening, traveling with Stash, and spending time with her family.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. A Funeral Service in celebration of Helen's life will immediately begin at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in the name of Helen to the charity of your choice.
