Obituary for Gary Thorpe

Gary J Thorpe passed away May 6, 2019 in Stewart, FL. He was a resident of Seymour CT and worked as a master pattern and mold maker for Preferred Pattern and Mold Co. (Stratford) for 37 years until his retirement in 2001, before moving to Hobe Sound FL. A proud US Army veteran serving in the Korean War, he also worked as a part time policemen in Seymour for many years and was an active member of the Citizens Engine Co #2 Seymour Fire Department, rising to the rank of Captain. He was an avid motorcycle rider, riding his gold wing bike all over this country and Canada and was a member of the Gold Wing Riders Association. Gary was a master Mason from Morning Star lodge in Seymour. He was also very active in AA for over 40 years helping countless people overcome their problems. Gary was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Weton Thorpe, and his parents, W. A. Pete Thorpe and Edna Thorpe, as well as his brother, Donald Thorpe, from Gates Mills OH. Survivors include his wife, Amelia Thorpe; sons, Gary J Thorpe and his wife Diane from Waldoboro ME, Paul D Thorpe and his wife Robin from Seymour CT and James G Thorpe and his wife Karen from Seymour; four loving grandchildren, Stephanie Matthai, currently in South Africa, Sara Thorpe of Manchester CT, Ian Thorpe, US Coast Guard, and Aidan Thorpe, US Coast Guard, as well as his extended family of many step children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Memorial contributions can be made to the Citizens Engine Company #2. 26 Deforest St., Seymour CT 06483. Services will be private at Mountain Meadows Cemetery in Seymour CT.
