Obituary for Wesley E. Smith

Wesley E. Smith, age 98, a lifelong resident of Oxford, beloved husband of the late Doris Smith, entered peaceful rest on Friday, January 19, 2018, in his home surrounded by family. Born in Oxford on May 21, 1919, he was a son of the late Ivan R. and Helena Smith. A proud U.S. Army veteran serving his country against Germany in World War II, Mr. Smith was a retired machinist for Kerite. He loved reading the newspaper and was especially fond of mind games. Wesley was a skilled woodworker and mechanic who also loved feeding birds. He will be remembered as a true gentleman.
Survivors include his beloved children, Wesley I Smith and his wife Barbara of NC, and Arlene Fanning and her husband George of Oxford, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Doris, he was also predeceased by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth, daughters, Shirley Gittings and Marjorie Hotchkiss, as well as one brother and two sisters.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will take place at a date to be announced. The Ralph Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church St. Seymour, CT 06483 has been entrusted with his arrangements.
